Utilising waste amine-oxime (WAO) resin through microwave semi-carbonization, a carbon adsorbent (CA) was obtained to remove Pb(II). After microwave treatment, the pore size of the skeleton structure, three-dimensional porous network, and lamellar pore structure of WAO was improved. The distribution coefficient (Kd) of Pb(II) onto CA is 620 mL/g, and the maximum adsorption capacity of Pb(II) is 82.67 mg/g after 20 min of WAO microwave treatment. The adsorption kinetics and adsorption isotherms conform to the quasi-second-order kinetic equation and Langmuir adsorption isotherm model, respectively. The surface of MT-WAO is negatively charged and the adsorption mechanism is mainly electrostatic interaction. Pb(II) elution in hydrochloric acid solution is more than 98%, and its recovery is high at 318 K and for 1 h.

Dynamic fault tree (DFT) and its related research methods have received extensive attention in safety analysis and reliability engineering. DFT can perform reliability modelling for systems with sequential correlation, resource sharing, and cold and hot spare parts. A technical modelling method of DFT is proposed for modelling ship collision accidents and loss-of-coolant accidents (LOCAs). Qualitative and quantitative analyses of DFT were carried out using the cutting sequence (CS)/extended cutting sequence (ECS) method. The results show nine types of dynamic fault failure modes in ship collision accidents, describing the fault propagation process of a dynamic system and reflect the dynamic changes of the entire accident system. The probability of a ship collision accident is 2.378 x 10-9 by using CS. This failure mode cannot be expressed by a combination of basic events within the same event frame after an LOCA occurs in a marine nuclear reactor because the system contains warm spare parts. Therefore, the probability of losing reactor control was calculated as 8.125 x 10-6 using the ECS. Compared with CS, ECS is more efficient considering expression and processing capabilities, and has a significant advantage considering cost.(c) 2022 Korean Nuclear Society, Published by Elsevier Korea LLC. The effects of pressure on the microstructure and magnetic properties of Co-Fe bistable Prussian blue analogues (PBA) were investigated by Mossbauer spectroscopy and magnetic measurements. Na0.54Co1.23[Fe(CN)(6)]center dot 7.6H(2)O was prepared by the co-precipitation method and pressurized at 1-40 MPa using a supercritical CO2 extraction unit. All materials are face-centered cubic with a Neel temperature of about 14 K. The results showed that two electronic configurations existed in the NaCoFe-PBA system at room temperature: Fe-LS(III)-CN-Co-HS(II) and Fe-LS(II)-CN-Co-LS(III). The pressure induced the enhancement of antiferromagnetic coupling between Co-Fe ions and controlled the interconversion of the two structures through charge transfer mediated by cyanide bridges. We found that the directions of redox reactions occurring at 0-20 MPa and 20-40 MPa did not coincide, suggesting that there may be more complex interactions between structural and electronic events.

Neuroinflammation not only contributes to epileptogenesis and neurodegeneration, but is also associated with cognitive impairment. Nod-like receptor family pyrin domain containing 3 (NLRP3) inflammasomemediated neuroinflammation is positively correlated with progression of temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) and cognitive impairment. Recent studies have shown that the anti-aging protein, klotho, exerts antineuroinflammation effects and enhances cognition in neurodegenerative disorders. In the present study, we investigated the role and underlying mechanism of klotho action in NLRP3 inflammasome-mediated neuroinflammation in a TLE model. Specifically, we first injected an adeno-associated viral (AAV)mediated overexpression of klotho (AAV-KL) into the bilateral hippocampus of rats. After 3 weeks, rats were intraperitoneally injected with lithium-chloride pilocarpine (LiCl-Pilo) to generate a TLE model. Results showed that klotho was significantly downregulated six weeks after TLE, while AAV-mediated klotho overexpression substantially attenuated TLE-induced hippocampal neuronal injury and cognitive impairment. Interestingly, klotho overexpression significantly alleviated expression of NLRP3, IL-18, and caspase-1 proteins, but up-regulated activation of nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2). However, treatment with Nrf2 inhibitor ML385 significantly reversed klotho's beneficial effects, including alleviated neuroinflammation, attenuated neuronal injury, and improved cognitive function. Taken together, these results indicated that klotho alleviated NLRP3 inflammasome-mediated neuroinflammation by activating the Nrf2 signaling pathway in the TLE rat model, suggesting that this the anti-aging protein could be a novel and promising therapeutic agent for managing TLE-associated cognitive impairment. Radiation-induced pulmonary fibrosis (RIPF) is a chronic and progressive respiratory tract disease characterized by collagen deposition. The pathogenesis of RIPF is still unclear. Type 2 alveolar epithelial cells (AT2), the essential cells that maintain the structure and function of lung tissue, are crucial for developing pulmonary fibrosis. Recent studies indicate the critical role of AT2 cell senescence during the onset and progression of RIPF. In addition, clearance of senescent AT2 cells and treatment with senolytic drugs efficiently improve lung function and radiation-induced pulmonary fibrosis symptoms. These findings indicate that AT2 cell senescence has the potential to contribute significantly to the innovative treatment of fibrotic lung disorders. This review summarizes the current knowledge from basic and clinical research about the mechanism and functions of AT2 cell senescence in RIPF and points to the prospects for clinical treatment by targeting senescent AT2 cells.

Obesity, a metabolic disease caused by excessive fat accumulation in the body, has attracted worldwide attention. Microcystin-LR (MC-LR) is a hepatotoxic cyanotoxin which has been reportedly to cause lipid metabolism disorder. In this study, C57BL/6J mice were fed a high-fat diet (HFD) for eight weeks to build obese an animal model, and subsequently, the obese mice were fed MC-LR for another eight weeks, and we aimed to determine how MC-LR exposure affects the liver lipid metabolism in high-fat-diet-induced obese mice. The results show that MC-LR increased the obese mice serum aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alanine aminotransferase (ALT), indicating damaged liver function. The lipid parameters include serum triglyceride (TG), total cholesterol (TC), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-c), and liver TG, which were all increased, whilst the high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-c) was decreased. Furthermore, after MC-LR treatment, histopathological observation revealed that the number of red lipid droplets increased, and that steatosis was more severe in the obese mice. In addition, the lipid synthesis-related genes were increased and the fatty acid beta-oxidation-related genes were decreased in the obese mice after MC-LR exposure. Meanwhile, the protein expression levels of phosphorylation phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (p-PI3K), phosphorylation protein kinase B (p-AKT), phosphorylation mammalian target of rapamycin (p-mTOR), and sterol regulatory element binding protein 1c (SREBP1-c) were increased; similarly, the p-PI3K/PI3K, p-AKT/AKT, p-mTOR/mTOR, and SREBP1/beta-actin were significantly up-regulated in obese mice after being exposed to MC-LR, and the activated PI3K/AKT/mTOR/SREBP1 signaling pathway. In addition, MC-LR exposure reduced the activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and increased the level of malondialdehyde (MDA) in the obese mice's serum. In summary, the MC-LR could aggravate the HFD-induced obese mice liver lipid metabolism disorder by activating the PI3K/AKT/mTOR/SREBP1 signaling pathway to hepatocytes, increasing the SREBP1-c-regulated key enzymes for lipid synthesis, and blocking fatty acid beta-oxidation.

N6-methyladenosine (m6A) methylation, the most common form of internal RNA modification in eukaryotes, has gained increasing attention and become a hot research topic in recent years. M6A plays multifunctional roles in normal and abnormal biological processes, and its role may vary greatly depending on the position of the m6A motif. Programmed cell death (PCD) includes apoptosis, autophagy, pyroptosis, necroptosis and ferroptosis, most of which involve the breakdown of the plasma membrane. Based on the implications of m6A methylation on PCD, the regulators and functional roles of m6A methylation were comprehensively studied and reported. In this review, we focus on the high-complexity links between m6A and different types of PCD pathways, which are then closely associated with the initiation, progression and resistance of cancer. Herein, clarifying the relationship between m6A and PCD is of great significance to provide novel strategies for cancer treatment, and has a great potential prospect of clinical application.

PURPOSE: To assess (68)Ga-PSMA PET/CT for detection of low- and intermediate-risk prostate cancer (PCa), high-risk PCa in comparison with mpMRI, respectively, and to determine which of low- and intermediate-risk PCa are more likely to be detected by (68)Ga-PSMA PET/CT. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective analysis of patients who had undergone a prostate biopsy and/or radical prostatectomy and who were scanned with (68)Ga-PSMA PET/CT and mpMRI between June 2019 and March 2021. The mpMRI images were scored with the Prostate Imaging-Reporting and Data System Version 2.1 (PI-RADS) and were classified as either negative (PI-RADS 1-3) or positive (PI-RADS 4-5). Suspicious (68)Ga-PSMA PET/CT lesions were reviewed for each relevant patient and classified by double-trained board-certified nuclear medicine physicians. The results were evaluated with the histopathological outcome. All patients were classified according to the D'Amico classification, and the clinical data were combined for stratified analysis. RESULT: A total of 101 patients who were pathologically diagnosed with PCa were analyzed. Of the 101 patients, 88 (80.6%) patients presented with a pathologic mpMRI, and 85 (79.1%) with a pathologic (68)Ga-PSMA PET/CT. In the high-risk PCa cohort, (68)Ga-PSMA PET/CT was positive in 64/66 (97.0%) patients and yielded a higher detection rate than that for the mpMRI patients (58/66, 87.9%; p < 0.05). However, mpMRI provided superior diagnostic confidence in identifying low- and intermediate-risk PCa (30/35, 85.7% vs. 21/35, 60.0%; p < 0.05). When the age threshold exceeded 62.5years and the serum prostate specific antigen (PSA) threshold exceeded 9.4ng/ml, a higher uptake of PSMA was more likely to occur in the lesions of low- and intermediate-risk PCa. CONCLUSION: The diagnostic performance of (68)Ga-PSMA PET/CT was superior to that of mpMRI in the high-risk PCa cohort, which was consistent with prior studies. Furthermore, in the initial diagnosis of low- and intermediate-risk PCa, we found that mpMRI showed a higher diagnostic accuracy than (68)Ga-PSMA PET/CT did. Low- and intermediate-risk PCa patients with a PSA ≥ 9.4ng/ml and age ≥ 62.5years were more likely to have a positive (68)Ga-PSMA PET/CT result.

Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) with FLT3-ITD mutation accounts for a large proportion of relapsed/refractory AML with poor prognosis. RIPK1 is a known key regulator of necroptosis and RIPK1 inhibition shows anti-AML effects in vitro. Chidamide is a histone deacetylase inhibitor (HDACi) with proven ability to induce apoptosis in FLT3-ITD positive AML cells. In the present study, we evaluated the effects of the combination of 22b, a novel RIPK1 inhibitor, and chidamide on proliferation and apoptosis in FLT3-ITD positive AML cell lines and primary cells. The results showed that 22b could significantly enhance the anti-leukemia effect of low-dose chidamide both on cell lines and primary cells. In a subcutaneous xenograft AML model, the combination of 22b and chidamide exhibited obviously elevated anti-tumor activity. In conclusion, our results support that the combination of RIPK1 inhibitor 22b and chidamide may be a novel therapeutic avenue for FLT3-ITD positive AML patients.

This cluster randomized controlled trial aimed to investigate the effects of an intervention to teach resourcefulness on depression and coping style of patients with coronary heart disease (CHD). A convenience sample of 72 patients in community settings took part. Participants in the intervention group (n = 36) received an 8-week intervention based on the concept of resourcefulness, plus routine health education. Participants in the control group (n = 36) received routine health education only. After the intervention, participants in the intervention group had significantly higher scores on resourcefulness and coping styles, and lower scores on depression than those in the control group (both ps < .001). The findings suggest that a well-developed intervention to teach resourcefulness could help patients with CHD to be more resourceful, improve their level of depression, and choose more effective strategies to cope with stress.

Background. Aging is an independent risk factor for heart failure (HF), and endothelial progenitor cell (EPC) function decreases with aging. Here, we further investigated whether age has a detrimental effect on circulating EPC function in HF with mildly reduced ejection fraction (HFmrEF) and its relationship with systemic inflammation. Methods. 58 HFmrEF patients were recruited. The adhesive, migrative, and proliferative activities of circulating EPCs, MAGGIC scores, and plasma interleukin (IL)-17 and IL-23 levels of these patients were assessed. Results. Older patients with HFmrEF had higher MAGGIC scores and lower circulating EPC adhesion, migration, and proliferation than younger patients. The similar tendency was observed in plasma IL-17 and IL-23 levels. The EPC functions were negatively associated with MAGGIC scores and plasma IL-17 or IL-23 levels. Conclusions. In patients with HFmrEF, aging leads to attenuated circulating EPC function, which is correlated with disease severity and systemic inflammation. The present investigation provides some novel insights into the mechanism and intervention targets of HFmrEF.

Iron-doped carbon dots (Fe-CDs) were greenly synthesized via a one-step hydrothermal method using the eco-friendly materials milk powder and FeCl3. It was found that the synthesized biomass Fe-CDs have photoluminescence properties and strong mimetic oxidase activity, which enables catalysis of the oxidation of 3,3′,5,5′-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) to produce a blue product, oxidized TMB (oxTMB). The presence of ascorbic acid (AA) could reduce the oxTMB and make the solution color lighter to realize the colorimetric determination of AA. In addition, the absorption peak of the oxTMB generated at 370 nm overlaps with the excitation spectrum of Fe-CDs, and oxTMB quenched the fluorescence of Fe-CDs based on the internal filtration effect (IFE). The presence of AA will reduce oxTMB and restore the fluorescence of Fe-CDs, and the change of fluorescence intensity is positively correlated with the concentration of AA. Accordingly, a novel method for colorimetric/fluorometric dual-signal detection of AA was developed. The linear range of the colorimetric assay was 25.0–500.0 μM, and the detection limit was 8.59 μM. The linear range of the fluorometric assay was 20.0–500.0 μM with an LOD of 5.13 μM. The method took advantage of different signals to achieve complementarity and eliminate false positives of single signals and improve the accuracy with great application prospects in the detection of AA.
