Neuroinflammation not only contributes to epileptogenesis and neurodegeneration, but is also associated with cognitive impairment. Nod-like receptor family pyrin domain containing 3 (NLRP3) inflammasomemediated neuroinflammation is positively correlated with progression of temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) and cognitive impairment.
