摘要:
Biosorption of uranium (VI) ions by immobilized Aspergillus fumigatus beads was investigated in a batch system. The influences of solution pH, biosorbent dose, U (VI) concentration, and contact time on U (VI) biosorption were studied. The results indicated that the adsorption capacity was strongly affected by the solution pH, the biosorbent dose and initial U (VI) concentration. Optimum biosorption was observed at pH 5.0, biosrobent dose (w/v) 2.5%, initial U (VI) concentration 60 mg L(-1). Biosorption equilibrium was established in 120 min. The adsorption process conformed to the Freunlich and Temkin isothermal adsorption models. The dynamic adsorption model conformed to pseudo-second order model. (C) 2010 Elsevier Ltd. In this paper, we consider a mathematical model for HIV-1 infection with intracellular delay and cell-mediated immune response. A novel feature is that both cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs) and the intracellular delay are incorporated into the model. We obtain a necessary and sufficient condition for the global stability of the infection-free equilibrium and give sufficient conditions for the local stability of the two infection equilibria: one without CTLs being activated and the other with. We also perform some numerical simulations which support the obtained theoretical results. These results show that larger intracellular delay may help eradicate the virus, while the activation of CTLs can only help reduce the virus load and increase the healthy CD(4)(+) cells population in the long term sense.

By treating Cu(NO(3))(2)center dot 3H(2)O with a V-shaped ligand 4,4'-oxydibenzoic acid (H(2)oba), a dynamic metal-carboxylate framework [Cu(2)(oba)(2)(DMF)(2)]center dot 5.25DMF (MCF-23) was synthesized, which features a wavelike layer with rhombic grids based on the paddle-wheel secondary building units. These layers stack via strong offset pi-pi stacking of the phenyl groups of oba ligands to give three-dimensional porosity. MCF-23 synthesized by conventional solvothermal methods always contains considerable and intractable impurities. In contrast, a microwave-assisted solvothermal method was proven to be a faster and greener approach to synthesize phase-pure MCF-23 in high yield. More interestingly, larger crystals suitable for single-crystal diffraction could be obtained by the multistep microwave heating mode. A powder X-ray diffraction study of MCF-23 reveals the dynamic structural transformation accompanying the release and reabsorption of the guest molecules. The N(2) (77 K) and CO(2) (195 K) gas sorption isotherms of the guest-free phase MCF-23a were measured.

Ni/gamma-Al2O3 catalyst had been prepared by atmospheric pressure glow discharge (APGD) plasma jet. Such plasma-prepared catalyst exhibited an improved low-temperature activity in CO2 reforming of CH4, compared to that of the catalyst prepared by conventional method. Characteristics of catalysts were analyzed by means of X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), temperature programmed desorption (TPD) experiment with H-2 or CO2 probe, Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) procedure, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The XRD and TEM characterization showed that this novel plasma-assisted preparation induced Ni nano-particles as small as 5 nm. The results of XRD, H-2-TPD and TEM confirmed that, the nickel dispersion of the Ni/gamma-Al2O3 catalyst by APGD was enhanced greatly. The improved anti-coke deposition performance was illustrated from the results of TGA, CO2-TPD and the stability test experiments. Crown Copyright (C) 2009 Published by Elsevier B.V. Lung cancer is a leading cause of death in human. Cancer stem cells have been regarded as basis for failure of current therapeutic options. Salinomycin was shown to kill these cancer stem cells in some types of cancer such as breast cancer and leukemia. The in vitro anticancer activities of salinomycin have been validated against the lung cancer cell line A549 via sulforhodamine B and colony formation assay. Salinomycin has been demonstrated to significantly rupture the in vitro lung cancer tumorospheres from ALDH positive A549 lung cells using flow cytometry. Expression of stem cell markers OCT-4, NANOG and SOX2 in ALDH positive A549 lung cells was decreased significantly by real-time RT-PCR analysis after 24 hour salinomycin treatment. Taken together, salinomycin may provide a promising approach for lung cancer chemotherapy.

摘要:
In this paper, we are concerned with the fast solvers for higher order edge finite element discretizations of Maxwell’s equations. We present the preconditioners for the first family and second family of higher order Nédélec element equations, respectively. By combining the stable decompositions of two kinds of edge finite element spaces with the abstract theory of auxiliary space preconditioning, we prove that the corresponding condition numbers of our preconditioners are uniformly bounded on quasi-uniform grids. We also present some numerical experiments to demonstrate the theoretical results.

摘要:
A year-long monitoring of gamma radiation effective dose rate and radon concentration had been done in the reservoir area of one uranium tailings pond in Hunan province (The monitoring area included indoor and outdoor area of residential buildings and workshops, tailings dam slope). Afterwards, the annual effective radiation dose of the people in that radiation environment had been calculated based on the results of monitoring, as well as a radiation risk assessment. According to the assessment, gamma radiation effective dose rate and radon concentration in the monitoring area were low, and the annual effective radiation dose was far below the international standard (30mSv), which showed that the radiation would not put the people's health at risk. However, the annual effective radiation dose of gamma was far above that of radon in the area of uranium tailings pond; therefore, it's advisable to take quarantine measures in in the area of uranium tailings pond to keep the surrounding residents away from unnecessary ionizing radiation.

John Money has been a dominant voice in sexology in the last part of the 20th century, breaking new ground in a wide variety of areas. In the process, he has been cantankerous, outspoken, and ever willing to do battle, but also original and thought provoking. This paper begins with an examination of science in general, moves on to psychology and sexology, and then examines Money's contributions to sexology in some detail. The latter are many and varied, including the development of the concept of gender, his theory of gender identity based on his work with intersex individuals, the John‐Joan case, and his importance in establishing transsexualism as a diagnostic category and an academic discipline. Also important are his contributions to the development of the nomenclature of sexology, his importance to the sexology movement as a teacher, his significant research on a large variety of sexual topics, his ability to convince government agencies that sex was deserving of funding, and his association with the Erickson Educational Foundation. He also was a significant figure in the development of the Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality (SSSS) and in raising the standard of its journal (The Journal of Sex Research), and therefore it is only fitting that an award be named after him. Though Money remains controversial, he has contributed significantly to the development of sexology as a discipline.

摘要:
Mice deficient for classical complement pathway (CCP) factor C4 are resistant to antibody and complement mediated experimental autoimmune myasthenia gravis (EAMG). Anti-C1q antibody administration before or following acetylcholine receptor immunization suppresses EAMG development by reducing lymph node cell IL-6 production and neuromuscular junction IgG, C3 and C56-C9 deposition. This effect is achieved by treating mice with 10 mu g of anti-C1q antibody, twice weekly for 4 weeks. Treatment with a higher amount of anti-C1q antibody gives rise to increased serum anti-acetylcholine receptor antibody, immune complex and C3 levels, facilitates kidney C3 and IgG deposits and thus reduces the treatment efficacy. C4 KO and anti-C1q antibody treated mice display normal immune system functions and intact antibody production capacity. Furthermore, CCP inhibition preserves alternative complement pathway activation, which is required for host defense against microorganisms. Therefore, CCP inhibition might constitute a specific treatment approach for not only myasthenia gravis but also other complement mediated autoimmune diseases.

By using non-equilibrium Green's functions in combination with the density-functional theory, we investigate the spin transport properties of molecular junctions based on 3d transition terminated zigzag graphene nanoribbons. The results show that the electronic transport properties are strongly depending on the type of terminated atom at the edge of ribbon. The currents of spin-up and spin-down display different behaviors, and the spin-filter effects can be observed. 摘要:
In the case of in-situ leaching of uranium, the primitive geochemical environment for groundwater is changed since leachant is injected into the water bearing uranium deposit. This increases the concentration of SO_4~(2-), uranium and other heavy metal ions and results in the groundwater contamination. The effects of pH values of the simulated solution on the reduction of SO_4~(2-) and the removal of uranium and other heavy metal ions by sulfate reducing bacteria(SRB) were studied. The results show that, when the pH value of the simulated solution is about 8, the reduction rate of SO_4~(2-) by SRB and the removal rate of uranium, Mn~(2+), Zn~(2+), Pb~(2+) and Fe~(2+) will reach their highest values. A bioremediation technique for remediation of groundwater in in-situ leaching uranium mine can be developed.

The in situ leaching uranium is environmentally friendly mining technique that contains mining, mineral processing and metallurgical technology, in which the leaching solution is directly injected into underground ore bed and the useful metal or compound is obtained through reaction between solutions and minerals. The ore-bearing strata pore structure feature and ore rock particle distribution directly affect the leaching rate of useful components. In order to study the ore-bearing strata ore rock structure feature and its effect on in situ leaching uranium, based on analysis of mercury penetration test data of a certain uranium deposit with rock samples, several relative parameters are determined including porous radius size and distribution, porosity distribution. Using fractal theory, porous structure characteristics and variation of this ore-bearing and strata was analyzed, fractal characteristics of porous structure was discussed, and pore structure characteristics of this ore-bearing strata was further studied with scanning electron microscope. The results show that fractal characteristics of porous structure is regional, the fractal dimension can quantitatively describe heterogeneity of pore structure, the more the fractal dimension, the stronger the heterogeneity of porosity distribution, the more complicated the pore structure, and the less the porosity of ore rock. This is harmful for uranium leaching.
