The nonlinear effect in relativistic Compton scattering for an intense circularly polarized laser

摘要:
Compton scattering between an intense laser pulse and a relativistic electron beam offers a promising development path toward high-energy, high-brightness x- and gamma-ray sources. Increasing laser peak power to obtain intense x- and gamma rays causes nonlinear Compton scattering to occur. To predict high-order harmonic radiation properties, we upgrade a Monte Carlo laser-Compton scattering simulation code (MCLCSS) by taking into account the nonlinear effect for the relativistic Compton scattering process. The energy spectra and angular and harmonic intensity distributions of the scattered photons are investigated using nonlinear Compton scattering of an intense circularly polarized laser. It is found that the laser parameter plays an important role in the generation of high-order harmonic radiation. Our study also suggests that the high-energy tails of the second and higher harmonics will stray from the backscattering region. ©2014 The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences.

In this work, the electrochemical behaviors of Dy(III) and its co-reduction with Al(III) on an inert tungsten electrode was investigated in LiCl-KCl molten salts at the temperature of 773 K by using cyclic voltammetry (CV), chronopotentiometry (CP) and square wave voltammetry (SWV) techniques. The results showed that the reduction of Dy(III) ions in LiCl-KCl salts is a reversible diffusion controlled process through a one-step reaction: Dy(III) + 3e <-> Dy(0). The diffusion coefficient of Dy(III) ions was calculated by both the CV and CP methods. Furthermore, the co-reduction of Al(III) and Dy(III) ions on the inert tungsten electrode allows Dy(III) ions to be reduced at a more positive potential through forming Al-Dy alloys. The concentration ratio of Al(III) cations to Dy(III) cations has a large impact on the formation of Al-Dy alloys. In a Dy(III) ion rich system, three signals attributed to the formation of Al-Dy intermetallic compounds were observed in CV and SWV analyses, while only two signals corresponding to Al-Dy intermetallic compounds were observed in the Dy(III) ion poor system. Potentiostatic and galvanostatic electrolyses performed on an aluminum electrode identified the co-reduction by the formation of one (Al3Dy) and two Al-Dy alloys (Al3Dy, AlDy), respectively. Finally, the electrolysis products were characterized by the Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) coupled with Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analyses. In the framework of QCD factorization we study the direct CP violation in B→ρ0(ω)V→π+π−V ( V is a vector meson) via the ρ−ω mixing mechanism. We find that the CP violation can be enhanced by ρ−ω mixing when the masses of the π+π− pairs are in the vicinity of the ω resonance. For the decay channel of B−→ρ0(ω)ρ−→π+π−ρ−, the maximum CP violation can reach 18%. We also discuss the possibility to observe the CP violation at the LHC.

We experimentally measured the kinetic energy and angular distributions of fragment ion H<sup>+</sup> of H<inf>2</inf> as a function of 810 nm femtosecond laser intensity by using velocity map imaging technique. The reaction pathways of dissociation channels H<inf>2</inf><sup>+</sup> →H<sup>+</sup> + H and H<inf>2</inf><sup>2+</sup> →H<sup>+</sup> + H<sup>+</sup> are proposed. The analysis of the angular distribution indicates the net two-photon pathway via the 3ωcrossing dominates over the direct one-photon pathway in channel H<inf>2</inf><sup>+</sup> →H<sup>+</sup> + H. The ionization of H<inf>2</inf><sup>+</sup> to H<inf>2</inf><sup>2+</sup> may be initiated by bond softening and above-threshold dissociation. The relative yield of fragment peaks indicates that dissociation and ionization of H<inf>2</inf><sup>+</sup> are competitive. The lower laser intensities emphasize the dissociation probability of H<inf>2</inf><sup>+</sup>, and the higher laser intensities favor higher ionization stages. ©2014 The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences.

摘要:
It is demonstrated that bright femtosecond X-rays can be obtained by irradiating a moderate laser onto a helium micro-droplet. The laser ponderomotive force continuously sweeps electrons from the droplets and accelerates them forward. The electrons exposed in the outrunning laser field oscillate transversely and emit photons in the forward direction. The total flux of photons with energies above 1keV is as high as 109/shot which is about 10-fold enhancement compared with betatron oscillation under similar laser conditions. The maximum achieved peak brightness is up to 1021photons/s/mm2/mrad2/0.1%BW. By adjusting laser and droplet parameters, we can get tunable X-rays with required brightness and energy. © 2014 AIP Publishing LLC.

The measurement sensitivity of the RAD7 to the <sup>220</sup>Rn concentration in its internal cell is 30% less than the sensitivity to <sup>222</sup>Rn. This reduction in <sup>220</sup>Rn sensitivity relative to <sup>222</sup>Rn sensitivity has been attributed to the decay of <sup>216</sup>Po before it reaches the collection electrode. Analyzing the airflow patterns in the internal cell of RAD7, we propose that this may also be due to a ''short-circuit stream- highly concentrated <sup>220</sup>Rn injected into the internal cell and discharged from another port quickly. Since in the ''short-circuit stream'', the <sup>220</sup>Rn concentration of outflow is high, the <sup>220</sup>Rn concentration remaining in the internal cell must be low. Therefore, further improvement to the reliability and accuracy of <sup>220</sup>Rn measurements may be attained by the improvement of the measuring chamber geometric factor and the electric field. ©2014 IOP Publishing Ltd and Sissa Medialab srl.

摘要:
This paper presents a process in which a radon monitor based on the electrostatic collection method is used to measure the 222Rn and 220Rn exhalation rates simultaneously and continuously employing a ventilation-type accumulation chamber. Generally, the radon exhalation rate can be measured by accumulation technique, but cannot be measured continuously. The advantage of this method using a ventilation-type accumulation chamber is that the radon exhalation rates can be measured continuously. Even though the environmental air is drawn into the chamber, the low atmospheric values of radon and thoron do not influence the measurement accuracy. The 222Rn and 220Rn exhalation rates error from the environmental air is less than 5% in this experiment.

摘要:
Nonlinear excitation of geodesic acoustic mode by drift waves is investigated in toroidally rotating tokamak plasmas using the ideal magnetohydrodynamic equations. It is found that both the radial wave number and the nonlinear growth rate of the driven geodesic acoustic mode increase with the speed of the toroidal rotation, where the decisive factor is the frequency shift of the geodesic acoustic mode induced by the toroidal rotation. The additional nonlinear terms induced by the toroidal rotation velocity make little effect, even though they promote the nonlinear excitation at all times. © 2013 IAEA, Vienna.

In this article, a new approach was established to estimate the fractional contributions of soil dust, biomass burning, biogenic emissions, coal burning, and vehicle exhaust to the carbonaceous particulate matter by carbon isotope and linear regression techniques of OC-K+ (organic carbon) and OC-EC (elemental carbon). Using the method described herein, the fractional distributions of these sources were quantitatively determined for the OC and semiquantitatively for the EC in the size-resolved particles (size ranges: <0.49, 0.49–0.95, 0.95–1.5, 1.5–3.0, 3.0–7.2, and >7.2 μm) collected in Jiading District, a suburb of Shanghai, China. Distinct size distribution of contributions of these sources to the OC and EC was observed. Generally, biomass burning contributed a large fraction to OC in the smaller particles and biogenic emissions shared a bigger fraction to OC in the larger particles. Soil dust made contributions solely to the OC, for no EC fraction was found in the soil dust. OC from coal burning concentrated in the fine particles (smaller than 3.0 μm), and that from vehicle exhaust exhibited bimodal distribution, with peaks for both fine and coarse particles. The fossil sources dominated EC in almost all the size ranges. Though a few deviations are brought about in the calculation, this approach provides an effective way to distinguish the sources of the carbonaceous particulate matter. © 2013 American Association for Aerosol Research © 2013 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.

We combine a simulation program for Laser Compton Scattering (LCS) with another for deuteron photodisintegration to simulate an experiment to search for parity violation in the d((gamma) over right arrow, n)p reaction using a LCS source. We extract the differential cross-section for d((gamma) over right arrow, n)p near threshold from fits to all relevant available d((gamma) over right arrow, n)p experimental data. We use this information along with theoretical estimates of parity violation in this reaction to calculate neutron yields and PV asymmetries in d((gamma) over right arrow, n)p near threshold using the weight method. This work lays a foundation for us to study the feasibility of this experiment, the optimization of experimental conditions, and systematic effects and false asymmetries in detail. We calculate the branching ratio of a bottom hadron decaying into a charmed hadron and a charged ρ meson within the QCD factorization approach. We consider the effect of the finite width correction of the ρ meson. Our numerical calculation shows an obvious correction because of this effect. We find that the finite width effect of the ρ meson reduces the branching ratios by about 9 % to 11 % for bottom meson decay channels: B+ ̄ D0ρ+, B 0→D - ρ +, and B0s → D-sρ+, and increases the branching ratio by about 10 % for Λb0 → Λc+ρ-. © 2013 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg and Società Italiana di Fisica.

Biosorption is an effective and economic method to treat wastewater containing low concentrations of uranium pollutants. In this study, banyan leaves (BLs) were used as a biosorbent to adsorb uranium ions. The biosorption behavior, thermodynamics, and kinetics of this adsorption process, as well as its mechanism, were investigated. The results indicated that the optimal adsorption effect was achieved when the initial pH was 3.0, the initial uranium concentration was 100 mg L<sup>-1</sup>, the absorbent dosage was 5 g L <sup>-1</sup>, and the temperature was chosen to be 293 K. The biosorption rate could be described better by a pseudo-second-order model than a pseudo-first-order model, an Elovich kinetic model, and a double-constant speed kinetic model. The adsorption of uranium(VI) ions proceeded very rapidly in the first 30 min, which subsequently slowed down, and finally reached equilibrium after 50 min. The biosorption isotherm of uranium adsorbed onto BLs could be described better by Freundlich isotherm than Langmuir and Temkin isotherms. This pattern of uranium adsorption onto BL was not achieved by single-molecule form, but rather by multiple forms of adsorption. The thermodynamics parameters, namely, ΔH<sup>0</sup>, ΔS<sup>0</sup>, and ΔG<sup>0</sup>, of adsorption of uranium(VI) ions onto BLs were calculated according to the results of the experiment, which revealed that the biosorption processes were both endothermic and spontaneous. The authors investigated the active sites of BLs for biosorption, and the results proved that -OH, C=O, P-O, and Si=O played an important role in biosorption. ©2013 American Society of Civil Engineers.

摘要:
The possibility of producing attosecond x-rays through Thomson scattering of laser light off laser-driven relativistic electron beams is investigated. For a ≤200-as, tens-MeV electron bunch produced with laser ponderomotive-force acceleration in a plasma wire, exceeding 106 photons/s in the form of ∼160 as pulses in the range of 3-300 keV are predicted, with a peak brightness of ≥5 × 1020 photons/(s mm2 mrad 2 0.1% bandwidth). Our study suggests that the physical scheme discussed in this work can be used for an ultrafast (attosecond) x-ray source, which is the most beneficial for time-resolved atomic physics, dubbed "attosecond physics." © 2013 AIP Publishing LLC.

摘要:
The transmission characteristics of the electromagnetic wave are numerically investigated in two-dimensional compound plasmonic structures composed of two straight subwavelength metal-insulator-metal (MIM) waveguides and a ring resonator. The two straight MIM waveguides situate on both sides of the ring resonator, and the MIM waveguide of the outgoing side has a positional angular deviation θrelative to the MIM waveguide of the incoming side. The results show that the filtering performances of the asymmetric structures (θ≠0 °) are greatly improved in comparison with the symmetric structure (θ= 0 °). For most of the asymmetric structures, there is a transmission minimum at the slightly bigger wavelength than one at which the transmission peak appears for the symmetric structures, and there is still a transmission peak at the wavelength of the transmission peak of the symmetric structures. Moreover, the difference between the transmission peak and valley is increased, and the breadth of the transmission peak becomes narrow. ©2013 Xiang Zhai et al.

In the perturbative QCD (PQCD) approach, we study the direct CP violation in B-0,B-+/- --> rho(0)(omega)pi(0,+/-) --> pi(+)pi(-)pi(0,+/-) via the rho-omega mixing mechanism. We find that the CP violation can be enhanced due to a large strong phase difference when the masses of the pi(+)pi(-) pairs are in the vicinity of the omega resonance. Taking into account the rho-omega mixing, we also compare the CP violation from the naive factorization approach, QCD factorization approach, and PQCD approach. Based on the B-0(B) over bar (0) mixing, we discuss the effects of (B) over bar B-0(0) mixing for the total CP violation of B-0 --> rho(0)(omega)pi(0) --> pi(+)pi(-)pi(0), which is time dependent.

According to the Hugenholtz-Van Hove theorem, the symmetry energy and its density slope can be decomposed uniquely in terms of the single-nucleon potential in asymmetric nuclear matter which, at normal density, can be constrained by the nucleon optical model potential extracted from analyzing the nucleon-nucleus scattering data. To more accurately extract information on the symmetry energy and its density slope at normal density from neutron-nucleus scattering data, going beyond the well-known Lane potential, we include consistently the second-order terms in isospin asymmetry in both the optical model potential and the symmetry energy decomposition. We find that the strength of the second-order symmetry potential U-sym,(2) in asymmetric nuclear matter is significant compared to the first-order one U-sym,U-l, especially at high nucleon momentum. While the U(sym,)1 at normal density decreases with nucleon momentum, the U-sym,U-2 is found to have the opposite behavior. Moreover, we discuss effects of the U-sym,U-1 and U-sym,U-2 on determining the density dependence of the symmetry energy, and we find that the available neutron-nucleus scattering data favor a softer density dependence of the symmetry energy at normal density with a negligible contribution from the U-sym,U-2. 摘要:
This work concerns directly the extraction of gadolinium from Gd 2O3by co-reduction with Al3+in theLiCl-KCl-AlCl3molten salts on the molybdenum and aluminum electrode, respectively, at temperatureof 773 K. Gibbs energy calculation shows that AlCl3 can favorably chloridize Gd2O3and release Gd3+ions. The electrochemical behaviors of Al3+, Gd3+ and the mechanisms of alloy formation were investi-gated by conducting a series of electrochemical techniques. Four typical signals were observed in cyclicvoltammetry, square wave voltammetry and chronopotentiometry, while five plateaus were observedin open circuit chronopotentiometry, which might correspond to different kinds of Gd-Al intermetalliccompounds. Potentiostatic and galvanostatic electrolysis were conducted to extract gadolinium from theLiCl-KCl-AlCl3melts by the co-reduction method, and it was found that if the molybdenum cathode wasused, GdAl2 particles would be deposited and adhere to a large amount of salt electrolytes. In contrast,when the aluminum plate was used as the cathode, a layer formed by potentiostatic electrolysis cor-responding to an intermetallic compound (GdAl3) and three layers formed by galvanostatic electrolysiscorresponding to three different Gd-Al intermetallic compounds such as GdAl3, GdAl 2 and GdAl couldbe collected and identified through scanning electron microscopy (SEM)-energy dispersive X-ray (EDX)and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis. Besides, electroextractions of gadolinium by co-reduction with Al 3+ on the aluminum electrode have been performed with extraction efficiency of 89.7% for potentiostaticelectrolysis and 96.5% for galvanostatic electrolysis, respectively. © 2013 The Authors. 摘要:
The paper will present a method based on the accumulation chamber technique for measuring of radon exhalation from the medium surface. A radon monitor traces the change of radon concentration in the accumulation chamber, and then the radon exhalation can be obtained accurately through linear fit. Based on our recent experiments, the radon exhalation rate from the medium surface obtained from this method is in good agreement with the actual exhalation rate of our simulation facility. This method is superior to the competition method which obtains the radon exhalation through the exponential fit by an external PC-system. The calculation for the exponential fit is very easy by computer and related software. However, for portable instruments, the single chip microcomputer can't calculate the exponential fit rapidly. Thus, this method is usable for developing the new portable instrument to classify building materials, etc. © 2012 Akadémiai Kiadó, Budapest, Hungary.

摘要:
Intense Compton-scattering γ-ray radiation driven by laser wakefield acceleration (LWFA) and generation of ultrashort positron beams are investigated by Monte Carlo simulation. Using an LWFA driven GeV electron bunch and a 45 femtosecond, 90 mJ/pulse, and 10AˆHz Ti:Sapphire laser for driving the Compton scattering, fs γ-ray pulses were generated. The latter have a flux of ≥10<sup>8</sup>/s, peak brightness of ≥10<sup>20</sup> photons/(s mm<sup>2</sup> mrad<sup>2</sup> 0.1% bandwidth), and photon energy of 5.9 to 23.2AˆMeV. The γ-ray pulses then impinge on a thin high-Z target. More than 10<sup>7</sup> positrons/s in the form of sub-100 fs pulses at several MeV can be produced. Such ultrashort positron pulses can be useful as the pump-probe type positron annihilation spectroscopy as well as in other applications. Copyright ©Cambridge University Press 2012.

摘要:
A numerical simulation of the energy deposition distribution in semiconductors is performed for 63Ni beta particles. Results show that the energy deposition distribution exhibits an approximate exponential decay law. A simple theoretical model is developed for 63Ni betavoltaic battery based on the distribution characteristics. The correctness of the model is validated by two literature experiments. Results show that the theoretical short-circuit current agrees well with the experimental results, and the open-circuit voltage deviates from the experimental results in terms of the influence of the PN junction defects and the simplification of the source. The theoretical model can be applied to 63Ni and 147Pm betavoltaic batteries. © 2013 Elsevier Ltd.
