One-pot synthesis of arginine modified hydroxyapatite carbon microsphere composites for efficient removal of U(VI) from aqueous solutions

摘要:
Uranium was not only the main source of nuclear energy but also one of the long-lived radionuclide. Herein,a novel arginine modified hydroxyapatite carbon microsphere composites (defined as C@HAp/ Arg) obtained promptly via a one-step mild hydrothermal method,was applied to remove U(VI) from aqueous solutions. Based on the characterization of transmission electron microscopy (TEM),scanning electron microscopy (SEM),Fourier transformed infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR),X-ray diffraction (XRD) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS),the synthesized C@HAp/Arg presented globular morphology and abundant functional groups (e.g.,ACOO~-),which were beneficial to its combination with U(VI). The interaction mechanism and removal capability of U(VI) on C@HAp/Arg were studied by batch adsorption technique and spectroscopy analysis. The results implied that U(VI) can form strong surface complexes on C@HAp/Arg. The kinetics adsorption of U(VI) followed pseudo-second-order kinetic model with high removal efficiency (~95% within 5 h at pH 5.0). The adsorption isotherms were well fitted by Langmuir model,implying that U(VI) uptake on C@HAp/Arg was monolayer coverage. It was found that the maximum adsorption capacities of CSs,C@HAp and C@HAp/Arg toward U(VI) were calculated to be 23.16,72.09 and 569.66 mg/g,respectively,at 298.15 K and pH 5.0,and thermodynamic parameters revealed that the adsorption processes of U(VI) were spontaneous and endothermic. In addition,effect of co-existed ions and CO_3~(2-) concentrations demonstrated that U(VI) adsorption on C@HAp/Arg was weakly interfered by foreign ions and carbonate concentrations. More importantly,the adsorption performance of U(VI) on C@HAp/Arg was still over ~87% after five cycles. Therefore,it was noted that the versatile C@HAp/Arg could be potentially used as a powerful building block for the enrichment and disposal of U(VI) from aqueous solutions,which could efficiently reduce the potential toxicity of U(VI) in the U (VI)-contaminated water.

Inorganic nanomaterials-based artificial enzymes (nanozymes) have received considerable attention over the past years. However, the substrates studied for nanozymes have so far been limited to small organic molecules. The catalytic oxidation of biomacromolecules, such as proteins, by nanozymes has not yet been reported to date. In this study, we report that cuprous oxide nanoparticles (Cu2O NPs) possess cytochrome c oxidase (CcO)-like activity and catalyze the oxidation of cytochrome c (Cyt c), converting it from the ferrous state to the ferric state under atmospheric oxygen conditions. Furthermore, the CcO-like activity of Cu2O NPs is pH- and size-dependent. The lower the solution pH and the smaller the particle size, the higher the CcO-like activity. The artificial Cyt c-Cu2O NPs system closely mimics the native Cyt c-CcO enzyme system, which opens new vistas in enzyme construction and potential applications. © 2017 American Chemical Society.

摘要:
A modified gelcasting approach was used to fabricate the microscale randomized 1–3 piezoelectric array, which involves the in situ polymerization of hydantion epoxy resin and 3,3′-Diaminodipropylamine (DPTA) in the lead zirconate titanate (PZT) suspensions with low viscosity and high solid loading. Rheological results demonstrated that the hydantion epoxy resin concentration had little effect on the viscosity of the premix solution, and therefore the optimized solid loading of the suspensions with 15.0 wt% resin could reach as high as 55.0 vol%. Weibull analysis also revealed that a more homogenous microstructure was obtained derived from the 55.0 vol% PZT suspension, where the Weibull modulus and the characteristic flexural strength reached the maximum value of 12.57 and 80.94 MPa. The excellent randomized piezoelectric pillar array with superior structural integrity and high fidelity was successfully fabricated. ©2016 Elsevier Ltd and Techna Group S.r.l.

摘要:
A paper spray mass spectrometry (PS-MS) method for rapid and reliable analysis of benzalkonium chloride (BAC) in compound eye drops and body surface disinfectant was developed. The sample was dropped onto triangular filter paper, and high voltage (3.5 kV) was applied to form an electrospray. This method can provide the composition of benzalkonium chloride in samples without pretreatment solvent or chromatographic separation, and the analysis time is only 10 s. The primary homologues C-12-BAC, C-14-BAC and C-16-BAC of benzalkonium chloride were quantitatively analyzed using PS-MS. Samples were subjected to simple dilution and quantified using the internal standard method. Ion trap mass spectrometry was scanned using SIM mode. The linear ranges of C-12-BAC, C-14-BAC and C-16-BAC were 1-100 mu gml(-1); the linear regression coefficients were 0.998-0.999; the detection limits (LODs) were 0.1 mu gmL(-1); the limit of quantifications (LOQs) was <1 mu gmL(-1), and the method validation indicated that the method precision and accuracy were good. Compared with HPLC-UV methods, there was no significant difference in the quantitative determination of the actual samples, but the analysis time for PS-MS is shorter (2 min). In addition, reagent consumption in PS-MS is small, and no chromatographic separation is needed, suggesting that PS-MS is especially suitable for high-throughput analysis. (C) 2017 Elsevier B.V. 摘要:
Nickel/cobalt double hydroxide composite containing reduced graphene oxide (Ni/Co-DH-RGO) with high electrochemical performances has been prepared by hydrothermal one-step method accompanied with using hexamethylene tetramine (HMT) as homogeneous precipitating agent and its hydrolysis product for reducing graphene oxide. X-ray diffraction pattern displays that Ni/Co-DH-RGO exists as a composite of alpha-Ni(OH)(2)-beta-Co(OH)(2) and reduced graphene oxide. Infrared spectrum shows that the typical peaks of carboxyl and expoxy group in graphene oxide are significantly weakened after the hydrothermal reaction. Scanning electron microscope image shows Ni/Co-DH-RGO takes on hierarchical morphology. The as-prepared Ni/Co-DH-RGO has a specific capacitance of 2120 F g(-1) at a current density of 1 A g(-1) and 1569.8 F g(-1) at the current density of 8 A g(-1).

摘要:
Heme proteins perform a large array of biological functions, with the heme group bound non-covalently or covalently. To probe the stabilization role of conserved tyrosine residue in the secondary sphere of heme site in heme proteins, we herein used cytochrome b(5) (Cyt b(5)) as a model protein, and mutated Tyr30 to Phe or His by removal of Tyr30 associated H-bond network and hydrophobic interaction. We performed thermal-induced unfolding studies for the two mutants, Y30F Cyt b(5) and Y30H Cyt b(5), as monitored by both UV-Vis and CD spectroscopy, as well as heme transfer studies from these proteins to apo-myoglobin, with wild-type Cyt b(5) under the same conditions for comparison. The reduced stability of both mutants indicates that both the H-bonding and hydrophobic interactions associated with Tyr30 contribute to the protein stability. Moreover, we performed molecular modeling studies, which revealed that the hydrophobic interaction in the local region of Y30F Cyt b(5) was well remained, whereas Y30H Cyt b(5) formed an H-bond network. These observations suggest that the conserved Tyr30 in Cyt b(5) is not replaceable due to the presence of both the H-bond network and hydrophobic interaction in the secondary sphere of the heme active site, As demonstrated here for Cyt b(5), it may be of practical importance for design of artificial heme proteins by engineering a Tyr in the secondary sphere with improved properties and functions. In this study, chitosan–metal oxide composites (CS–MO) were prepared for graphene oxide (GO) removal from aqueous solutions. The results showed that the GO coagulation on CS–MO was dependent on pH and ionic strength. The maximum GO removal capacities reached 442.5mg/g on CS–Al2O3, 425.0mg/g on CS–ZnO and 421.2mg/g on CS–MgO, respectively, showing a huge advantage in the efficient elimination of GO from natural water system. The coagulation of GO on CS–MO was dominated by electrostatic attraction in acidic conditions and by hydrogen bonds in neutral and alkaline conditions. The findings are helpful to improve the current understanding of the environmental behavior of GO in natural aqueous systems. © 2016, Springer Science+Business Media Dordrecht.

摘要:
Well-defined polymer/inorganic nanoparticle (NP) hybrids are of vital importance to the development of nanomaterials with desired optical, electric, magnetic, and many other properties. We demonstrate the efficient incorporation of n-trioctylphosphine oxide (TOPO)-coated CdSe quantum dots (QDs) into polystyrene-b-polyacrylic acid (PS-b-PAA) colloids by a “solution phase self-assembly”approach. Driven by the hydrophobic interactions, the CdSe QDs are homogeneously encapsulated in the hybrid colloids. The sizes of the hybrid colloids with different structures, i.e., simple spherical micelles and big compound micelles, are tuned from 45 to 126 nm by varying the THF content in the cosolvents of THF and DMF, as well as changing the content or addition rate of selective solvent (water). The PS-b-PAA@CdSe QD hybrid colloids, which show brightly green fluorescence, can be endocytosed into biological cells and be released from the cells evolutionally, indicating their potential applications in biological imaging, labeling, and sensing, among others. ©2017, Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.

Capacitive deionization (CDI) is a promising water desalination technology in which a pair of porous electrodes is electrically charged to remove ionic species from water. Rational design of electrode materials and device structure opens new possibilities in removing heavy metals from wastewater by the CDI process. Herein, a bench-scale CDI device based on 3D functionalized flexible carbonaceous aerogels (CAs) derived from natural and renewable biomass was designed for water decontamination. We put forward a new and promising fabrication method, which utilized only low valence metal precursors to fabricate high valence metal oxides (MO) and CA hybrids (denoted CAs/MO). The resultant CAs/MO hybrids exhibited a hierarchical porous structure with a specific surface area of 262.6 m2 g-1 and an excellent specific capacity of 120.4 F g-1. Enhanced electrochemical capacity and low inner resistance endowed the CAs/MO hybrid electrodes with an outstanding decontamination capacity of 57.13 mg g-1 for Cu(ii) at a low applied voltage of 1.2 V, which was nearly 3 times higher than that of 19.28 mg g-1 at an open circuit and highlighted the advantages of the CDI process in decontamination technology. The CAs/MO electrodes had good cycling stability for CDI decontamination applications. This study certifies the feasibility of decontamination and recovery of aqueous toxic heavy metals using the CDI process in pollution cleanup. © 2017 The Royal Society of Chemistry.

Electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS) analysis in the negative ion mode is adversely affected by ionization suppression caused by electrical discharge and the presence of salts. Paper spray mass spectrometry (PS-MS) also suffers from the above phenomenon, being built on principles similar to those of ESI. Herein, we report the use of a paper substrate modified by 1-[3-(trimethoxysilyl)propyl]urea to improve the sensitivity of quantitative PS-MS analysis in the negative ion mode. The obtained results demonstrated that the urea modified paper substrate can effectively bind anions and highly polar compounds in the sample solution, decreasing competitive ionization in the negative ion mode of PS-MS and significantly reducing the signal intensity of Cl<sup>−</sup>adducts. In addition, the analyte responses were also significantly improved owing to the decreased electrical discharge observed for the less polar surface to decrease electrical discharge. Compared to non-modified PS-MS, urea-modified PS-MS exhibits a much higher sensitivity, showing 2−109 times improved signal-to-noise ratio (S/N). In real sample analysis, the limits of detection (LODs) of salicylic acid in urine and terpene lactones in Ginkgo biloba extract (EGb) were improved 10-fold and 2–40-fold, respectively, compared to that of non-modified PS-MS. ©2017 Elsevier B.V.

摘要:
A series of novel N-(5-benzyl-4-(tert-butyl) thiazol-2-yl)-2-(piperazin-1yl) acetamides were designed, synthesized and evaluated for their antitumor activities in vitro. The structures of the synthesized compounds were characterized by H-1 NMR, C-13 NMR and elemental analysis. In general, compounds 5a, 5c and 6a showed potent antiproliferative activity against HeLa (human cervical cancer) and A549 (human lung cancer) cell lines. Compound 6a, with the best inhibitory activity against HeLa cells (IC50 = 1.6 +/- 0.8 mu M), was selected to investigate the induced changes of cell morphology in the HeLa cell line by means of acridine orange (AO)/ethidium bromide (EB) double staining and cell cycle analysis using flow cytometry. The results indicated that compound 6a could induce cell apoptosis and cause G1-phase arrest in the cell division cycle.

摘要:
The grafted mangrove endophytic fungus Fusarium sp. #ZZF51 by phytic acid with polyphosphate groups (PA-ZZF51) was successfully synthesized by esterification reaction, and its uranium(VI) biosorption conditions, models, mechanism and regeneration property were also obtainted. The uranium(VI) removal from aqueous solution by PA-ZZF51 was optimized at pH (5.0), S/L ratio (0.2 g L−1), time (45 min), and the initial uranyl ions concentration (100 mg L−1) with 453.70 mg g−1 of biosorption capacity and 90.74% of removal percentage, respectively. Kinetic and equilibrium biosorption studies showed pseudo-second-order equation and Langmuir isotherm model could better fit with the experiment data. FTIR and SEM of the prepared material indicated the various functionalities on the mycelium surface including hydroxyl, carboxyl, phosphate groups and so on were responsible for the binding of uranyl ions. © 2017, Akadémiai Kiadó, Budapest, Hungary.

摘要:
纸喷雾质谱法是一种新型的敞开式质谱技术,其以低价易处理的纸为载体,将样品加在三角形的纸上,通过施加高电压,目标分子在电场的驱动下到达纸尖,瞬间气化形成电喷雾,样品离子化后进入质谱进行分析。它具有敞开式质谱法和电喷雾电离技术的特点,可以在开放式大气压环境下对样品或样品表面的物质进行分析,分析成本低、高通量、简便、实时、快速,可简化工作流程,提高质谱仪器的易用性。本文从纸喷雾质谱法的原理出发,介绍了影响其电离效率的主要因素(如载体基质,溶剂系统,洗脱方式等),并对近几年该技术的改进和发展,及其在生物样品检测、植物化学分析、品种鉴别、食品安全和环境分析等领域的应用进行了综述,全面介绍了该项技术的特点和优势。多项研究证明纸喷雾质谱法是一个应用面广泛,具有很大发展前景的分析技术,对其开展研究工作十分有意义。最后讨论了纸喷雾质谱法存在的不足,并提出了相关改进的设想。

The rational design of metalloenzymes provides advantages not only for illustrating the structure and function relationship of native enzymes, but also for creating functional artificial enzymes comparable to native enzymes. Dye-decolorizing peroxidases (DyPs) are a new family of heme peroxidases and have received much attention recently. Inspired by the structural features of native DyPs with multiple Tyr and Trp residues, we herein aimed to design functional artificial DyPs using myoglobin (Mb), an O2 carrier as a protein scaffold, by further introduction of Tyr/Trp into the secondary sphere of the heme center in the F43Y Mb mutant. The latter has been shown to possess a novel Tyr-heme cross-link and exhibit enhanced peroxidase activity, which provides an ideal platform to design a series of derivatives, including F43Y/F46Y Mb, F43Y/I107Y Mb, F43Y/F138 W Mb and F43Y/I107Y/F138 W Mb. Our design revealed that the Tyr-heme cross-link was well-retained in the mutants except for F43Y/F46Y Mb, as confirmed by X-ray crystal structure analysis. More importantly, stopped-flow kinetic studies showed that these derivatives exhibit enhanced dye-decolorizing peroxidase activities compared to that of wild-type (WT) Mb. This is particularly the case for the double mutant F43Y/F138 W Mb, exhibiting an overall catalytic efficiency (kcat/Km) of 110670 M-1 s-1, which is ∼144-fold and ∼20-fold that of WT Mb and F43Y Mb, respectively, and is ∼4.3-fold that of native DyP from Vibrio cholerae. Stopped-flow, electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) and isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC) studies further provided insights into the activation of H2O2 and the binding of a substrate, reactive blue 19 (RB19), to the double mutant. This study provides valuable information for elucidating the structure and dye-decolorizing function relationship of peroxidases, and also clues for the design of other functional artificial heme enzymes. © 2017 The Royal Society of Chemistry.

摘要:
Purpose: Studies concerning tumor regression grade (TRG) after two-week course of radiotherapy (RT) are limited. We tried to assess associations of TRG and outcomes in patients with locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC) treated with preoperative two-week course of RT. Methods:356 consecutive LARC patients were retrospectively assessed. Patients with complete/intermediate (TRG1-3) and poor (TRG4-5) regressions were compared for overall survival (OS), disease-free survival (DFS) and metastasis-free survival (MFS). Results: By univariate analysis, pretreatment and postoperative factors including TNM stages, ypT, ypN, surgical procedure, pathological grade, and TRG impacted survival outcomes. Complete/intermediate regressions (TRG1-3) had significantly improved survival outcomes compared with poor ones (TRG4-5) (5y-OS, 85.8% vs. 65.8%, P=0.001; 5y-DFS, 76.0% vs. 53.7%, P < 0.001; 5y-MFS, 84.2% vs. 66.7%, P < 0.001). Multivariate analysis showed that ypN (P < 0.001) and pathological grade (P=0.018) were the most important independent prognostic factors for DFS. ypT (P=0.014) and ypN (P=0.001) were the independent prognostic factors for MFS. Meanwhile, ypT (P=0.009), ypN (P=0.001), surgical procedure (p=0.001), and TRG (p=0.019) were the independent prognostic factors for OS. Conclusions:Complete/intermediate TRG regressions had a more favorable prognosis than the poor group. When treated with preoperative two-week course of RT; ypT, ypN, surgical procedure, and TRG seem to affect OS. © Li et al.

The design of artificial metalloenzymes has achieved tremendous progress, although few designs can achieve catalytic performances comparable to that of native enzymes. Moreover, the structure and function of artificial metalloenzymes in non-native states has rarely been explored. Herein, we found that a c-type cytochrome b5 (Cyt b5), N57C/S71C Cyt b5, with heme covalently attached to the protein matrix through two Cys–heme linkages, adopts a non-native state with an open heme site after guanidine hydrochloride (Gdn⋅HCl)-induced unfolding, which facilitates H2O2 activation and substrate binding. Stopped-flow kinetic studies further revealed that c-type Cyt b5 in the non-native state exhibited impressive peroxidase activity comparable to that of native peroxidases, such as the most efficient horseradish peroxidase. This study presents an alternative approach to the design of functional artificial metalloenzymes by exploring enzymatic functions in non-native states. © 2017 The Authors. 摘要:
The performance of the proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) is significantly improved through introducing nitrogen-doped carbon nanotubes (NCNTs) into the catalyst layer (CL) and microporous layer (MPL) of the membrane electrode assembly (MEA), it reveals by SEM images that the NCNTs are uniformly dispersed in CL and MPL, resulting in the more plenty of porosity, higher surface area, better conductivity, and better prevention of the layer cracks. The BET surface area and pore volume of MPL are increased by 88% and 77% respectively with the addition of 20 wt% of NCNTs in MPL. The membrane electrode assembly (MEA) with adding 20 wt% NCNTs both in cathode CL and in cathode GDL can yield the best cell performance. At a cell temperature of 70 °C and 30 psi back pressures, the current density is up to 1000 mA cm−2 at 0.7 V and 1600 mA cm−2 at 0.6 V, and the max power density reaches 997 mW cm−2. © 2017 Elsevier Ltd

摘要:
A new strategy to fabricate CoN<inf>x</inf>single cluster supported nanocarbon catalysts (C/P/2Co600) with enhanced atomic utilization towards the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) is reported. N-Coordination protection and low-temperature pyrolysis are the two key factors for the formation of CoN<inf>x</inf>single clusters on nanocarbon supports. Morphological and structural identification confirmed the simultaneous anchoring of homo-dispersed CoN<inf>x</inf>single clusters and N-doping on the nanocarbon under relatively mild thermal treatment conditions. Expectedly, the obtained single cluster catalyst with a trace amount of metal atoms exhibited excellent ORR performance including a positive half-wave potential (0.846 V), a high mass activity (0.98 A mg<inf>Co</inf><sup>-1</sup>, ampere per milligram of cobalt) and outstanding chemical durability after 8000 potential cycles. We believe that our findings provide a new route for the rational design of low-cost and highly active ORR catalytic materials. ©2017 The Royal Society of Chemistry.

Hierarchical silicon dioxide-@-layered double hydroxide (SiO2@LDH) nanocomposites were synthesized by a facile in situ co-precipitation method, and characterized by XRD, FESEM, FT-IR and XPS in detail. The sorption of uranium (U(VI)) and methyl orange (MO) on SiO2@LDH were investigated as a function of pH, ionic strength, contact time and temperature. The results indicated that the sorption of U(VI) and MO were strongly dependent on pH, and weakly dependent on ionic strength, demonstrating that the interaction of U(VI) was mainly dominated by inner-sphere surface complexation and the sorption of MO was mainly attributed to electrostatic attraction due to the high removal efficiency (∼98% within 4h for U(VI) ions, and ∼92% within 10min for MO). The kinetics sorption of U(VI) and MO both followed the pseudo-second-order model well, suggesting that the sorption processes were chemical sorption. The sorption isotherms of U(VI) and MO on SiO2@LDH were well fitted by the Langmuir model, and the maximum sorption capacities of SiO2@LDH were calculated to be 303.1mg·g−1 for U(VI) and 166.1mg·g−1 for MO. The thermodynamic parameters revealed that the sorption of U(VI) and MO was spontaneous process. Integrating the experimental result analysis, the hierarchical SiO2@LDH may be a promising material for the efficient elimination of radionuclides and dyes from aqueous solutions in natural environmental pollution cleanup. © 2017

An innovative electrochemical sensor, based on a carbon paste electrode (CPE) modified with graphene (GR) and a boron-embedded duplex molecularly imprinted hybrid membrane (B-DMIHM), was fabricated for the highly sensitive and selective determination of lamotrigine (LMT). Density functional theory (DFT) was employed to study the interactions between the template and monomers to screen appropriate functional monomers for rational design of the B-DMIHM. The distinct synergic effect of GR and B-DMIHM was evidenced by the positive shift of the reduction peak potential of LMT at B-DMIHM/GR modified CPE (B-DMIHM/GR/CPE) by about 300 mV, and the 13-fold amplification of the peak current, compared to a bare carbon paste electrode (CPE). The electrochemical reduction mechanism of lamotrigine was investigated by different voltammetric techniques. It was illustrated that square wave voltammetry (SWV) was more sensitive than different pulse voltammetry (DPV) for the quantitative analysis of LMT. Thereafter, a highly sensitive electroanalytical method for LMT was established by SWV at B-DMIHM/GR/CPE with a good linear relationship from 5.0×10<sup>−8</sup>to 5.0×10<sup>−5</sup>and 5.0×10<sup>−5</sup>to 3.0×10<sup>−4</sup> mol L<sup>−1</sup>with a lower detection limit (1.52×10<sup>−9</sup> mol L<sup>−1</sup>) based on the lower linear range(S/N=3). The practical application of the sensor was demonstrated by determining the concentration of LMT in pharmaceutical and biological samples with good precision (RSD 1.04–4.41%) and acceptable recoveries (92.40–107.0%). ©2017 Elsevier B.V.
