石鼓书院历史悠久，源远流长。对石鼓书院诗词的研究是石鼓书院文化研究中的重要组成部分。这些诗词不仅反映石鼓书院独特的自然景观、人文景观，而且围绕实现国家统一，维护巩固领土完整这一爱国精神实质全方位、多角度的展开，呈现出其鲜明特点，这些诗词从文化内涵上反映出石鼓文化与湖湘文化的精神实质是一脉相承的。
