The Lewis base property of Al_2O_3 has been studied quantitatively with an infrared spectroscopic approach by using boric acid trimethyl ester (BATE) as the probe molecule. The adsorption of BATE by Al_2O_3 makes the 1360cm-1 absorb peak of BATE didived into two absorb peaks (1409cm-1 and 1287cm-1) and the 1036cm-1 absorb peak shifted to 1067cm-1. Under low pressure the height of the absorb peaks is direct proportion to the pressure of BATE and to the Al_2O_3 content. The results showed that there is certain strength of Lewis base with Al_2O_3 and the adsorpt...
