From June 1988 to October 1989,1,100 cases of urolithiasis were treated by extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy and the effects were checked by radiography.The results showed that small stones coula be smashed up completely and disappeared,but for big stones only changes in volume,density,shape or edge-appearance can be observed,and that cast form like renal calyces or stone stress may be formmed after the the smash of the large renal stones or ureteral stones.
