X-linked inhibitor of apoptosis protein (XIAP) is the most potent endogenous member of the inhibitor of apoptosis protein family. XIAP exerts its anti-apoptotic effects by inhibiting both the death receptor pathway and mitochondrial pathway of apoptosis through various mechanisms such as directly binding to caspases, activating the nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) pathway, and other signaling pathways.
