Background: Midkine (MK), a heparin-binding protein, participates in multiple cellular processes, such as immunity, cellular growth and apoptosis. Overwhelming evidence indicates that MK plays an important role in various pathological processes, including chronic inflammation, autoimmunity, cancer, and infection.
