Atherosclerosis is a chronic inflammatory disease which is characterized by lipid deposits. Understanding the development of atherosclerosis plaque is of importance to the treatment of the disease. In this work, we develop a mathematical model for the formation and growth of atherosclerosis plaque, which includes the following key variables: low-density lipoprotein (LDL) and high-density lipoprotein (HDL), free radicals and oxidized LDL, and cells: macrophages (M), foam cells (F), endothelial cells and smooth muscle cells.
