Listeria monocytogenes, a fatal foodborne pathogen has the extraordinary capacity to survive in harsh conditions and is a potential threat to public health. A novel 91 kb plasmid pLM1686 was found in the prevalent L. monocytogenes sequence type (ST) 87 strain in China. In this study, the function and distribution of pLM1686 were firstly investigated in L. monocytogenes.
