Cyanobacteria are freshwater microorganisms that can bloom and produce toxins that contaminate water. There is thus a need for methods to remove cyanobacteria, by flocculation for instance. Here, we prepared new flocculants by modifying waterwork sewage sludge. Flocculant (A) or (B) were prepared by treating 3 g of preprocessed sludge in hydrochloric acid and heating at 200 or 250 A degrees C for 3.0 h.
