Follicles consist of specialized somatic cells that encase a single oocyte. Follicle development is a process regulated by a variety of endocrine, paracrine, and secretory factors that work together to select follicles for ovulation. Zinc is an essential nutrient for the human body and is involved in many physiological processes, such as follicle development, immune response, homeostasis, oxidative stress, cell cycle progression, DNA replication, DNA damage repair, apoptosis, and aging.
