Atherosclerotic lesions are characterized by the accumulation of abundant lipids and chronic inflammation. Previous researches have indicated that macrophage-derived lipoprotein lipase (LPL) promotes atherosclerosis progression by accelerating lipid accumulation and proinflammatory cytokine secretion.
