Polyethyleneimine (PEI)/graphene oxide (GO) was synthesized through a self-assembly method with the formation of the amide group –CONH– between –NH 2 on PEI and –COOH on GO. The formation was confirmed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The oxygen- and nitrogen-containing functional groups of PEI/GO were involved in the adsorption of U(VI), as determined under the FT-IR and XPS analyses of PEI/GO and U(VI)-adsorbed PEI/GO.
