Infrared thermography was used to investigate the necking phenomena in cold-drawing process of PET fiber. The change of temperature and diameter during the necking process was determined accurately online by an infrared camera with 18 μm close-up lens. The infrared thermal images show that self-heating of the fiber only occurs in the necking region.
