Sulfo-Salophen,a water-soluble tetradentate Schiff base ligand of uranyl,was synthesized by the reaction of 5-sulfo-salicylaldehyde with 1,2-phenylenediamine. The coordination reaction of sulfo-Salo-phen with uranyl to form complex uranyl-sulfo-Salophen was studied by fluorescence spectroscopy. The re-sult shows that the reaction of sulfo-Salophen with uranyl results in a remarkable enhancement of fluores-cence intensity. The maximum emission wavelength of the fluorescence is at 428 nm.
